Celebrations

Everyone Loves to Celebrate

People everywhere love to celebrate. A celebration ...

  • could be an event or a moment,  personal or communal, private or shared

  • enables people to recognise the importance of a sad or happy time and how it impacts life, community and culture

  • recognises the depth of spiritual belief and how it is shared amongst like believers

  • may remember past relationships or events

  • brings happiness and peace to mind and soul.

Celebrations usually stay true to their intent. However, people can interpret the way they like to celebrate them. Music and song, language through literature, artistic approaches and other sensory interpretations are just some of the ways people use to communicate and share their love, feelings and beliefs.

Celebrating Eid-UI-Adha (16 November 2010) is a festival celebrated after Ramadan has concluded by Muslim cultures. It is a happy time were people like to visit family and friends, eat favourite foods and share greetings.

Dima badly wants a pair of blue shoes she saw, but has to wait until Eid for her mum to buy them for her. On the morning of Eid, she puts on her new dress with her matching new blue shoes and goes to her grandparents’ house where the whole family has gathered to celebrate. The Eid Shoes is an interesting account of the celebration of Eid and the Arab culture as seen through the eyes of young Dima. A simple, well written book.
